Tried every option in the book, and them some, with little luck. Can get it to pick a channel then no audio, drops channel and goes back to control channel.

Don't bet too much. The system isn't designed for scanners, it is for radios specifically designed and built to work on them. Your scanner is built to monitor a wider range of frequencies in more modes and at a cheaper price.
